Kindred Spirits: Sam

Meet Sam Nugent. Maybe the friendliest, most charismatic guy ever. He's one of my closest Nashville friends. We met at a coffee shop in Nashville a few months after I first moved here. It was a Tuesday night and I was introduced to a huge group of people. He was one of them. He caught my attention, because with that hair, how could he not? But also because he looked me in the eye and said, "your fro is on point." It was such a fantastic compliment. I was caught off guard by how intentional of a man he was, and even more caught off guard when I learned that he was only 17 years old.

Sam is such a free spirit, so true to who he is, and probably the coolest guy I've ever met. My favorite thing about him is how much he doesn't think about. I don't mean he does that thing where he doesn't think before he does stuff, I mean he isn't worried about what other people are thinking, he isn't worried about what's currently trendy, doesn't care about really anything other than what truly matters. And to me, that's what makes him so cool. He's so different, so unique, so hilarious, and so kind.

He is in tune with himself, the Holy Spirit, and the meaning of having a friend. And because of that, he is one of the greatest men I've ever known. These days you can find him working at Crema washing dishes or spot him walking barefoot around Nashville. Say hi, he loves people.

We took these photos on a (typical) rainy Nashville day in Germantown. I'm in love with them because they look like Portland, Oregon. Enjoy.
